This ideal weight calculator shows the weight in kg that suits your height, in two ways. First, a healthy range from BMI, so you can see the lowest and highest weight that still counts as healthy. Second, a single figure from four medical formulas that doctors and dietitians use.
There is no single perfect number. Frame, muscle and age all shift what is right for you, so treat the range as the goal and the formulas as a guide inside it.

How the ideal weight calculator works
Give the tool your height, in either unit, and choose male or female. The calculator then does two things:
- Multiplies the healthy BMI band by your height in metres squared to give a range in kg.
- Runs the Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi formulas and shows each result and their average.
The BMI range is the better target for daily life. The formulas were made for clinical use, such as working out medicine doses, and they ignore build entirely.

The healthy range uses Indian adult BMI bands of 18.5 to 22.9. The WHO list allows up to 24.9, which adds several kg at the top. Each height has its own page with both, for example 5'2, 5'5, 5'8 and 5'11. The full height weight chart has every height in one place.
The four ideal weight formulas
Devine: men 50 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet; women 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg per inch
Robinson: men 52 + 1.9 per inch; women 49 + 1.7 per inch
Miller: men 56.2 + 1.41 per inch; women 53.1 + 1.36 per inch
Hamwi: men 48 + 2.7 per inch; women 45.5 + 2.2 per inch
Take a 5 feet 3 inch woman: she is 3 inches over 5 feet. Devine: 45.5 + 6.9 = 52.4 kg. Robinson 54.1 kg, Miller 57.2 kg, Hamwi 52.1 kg.
The formulas are explained in more depth, with their history and limits, on the ideal body weight calculator page.
Ideal weight for women
For women of average Indian height, around 5 feet to 5 feet 4 inches, the healthy range runs from about 43 to 61 kg depending on height. Weight in the upper half of the range is perfectly healthy if the waist stays under 80 cm.
Women who are breastfeeding, recovering from pregnancy or going through menopause can see their weight sit higher for a time. Health markers such as blood pressure, blood sugar and energy levels matter more than reaching a formula number.
Ideal weight for men
For men around 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 10 inches, the healthy range is roughly 52 to 72 kg. Men who lift weights may sit above the range with a lean waist, which is fine. Check the body fat tool if you are unsure whether extra weight is muscle or fat.
Does ideal weight depend on age?
For adults, height matters far more than age. The BMI band is the same at 25 and at 55. People over 65 may be advised to stay toward the top of the range, because a little reserve helps during illness and falls.
Children are different: a child's weight only makes sense next to a growth chart for the same age and sex. See ideal weight for kids and the baby weight chart.
Frame size and ideal weight
Some people have a larger skeleton. A simple check: wrap your thumb and middle finger around the opposite wrist. If they overlap, your frame is small; if they just touch, medium; if they do not meet, large. Many dietitians shift the target down by about 10 percent for a small frame and up by 10 percent for a large one.
How to reach your ideal weight
- Work out daily calories with the calorie calculator and pick a gentle gap of 300 to 500 kcal.
- Keep protein steady with the protein target tool.
- Walk most days; track distance with the steps converter.
- Check progress every two weeks, not every day.
If you are far below your healthy range, losing weight without trying, or worried about food and body image, please see a doctor. Gaining or losing weight safely is easier with support.

Frequently asked questions
What should be my ideal weight?
For adults in India, any weight that gives a BMI of 18.5 to 22.9 at your height is a healthy target. Enter your height above to see the range in kg.
How do I calculate ideal weight?
Multiply 18.5 and 22.9 by your height in metres squared to get a range. Or use a formula such as Devine: 50 kg for men or 45.5 kg for women, plus 2.3 kg for every inch over 5 feet.
Which weight is ideal for women?
It depends on height. A 5 feet 2 inch woman has a healthy range of about 46 to 57 kg on Indian bands, while a 5 feet 6 inch woman's range is about 52 to 64 kg.
Ideal weight for men in kg: how much?
For a 5 feet 8 inch man, about 55 to 68 kg on Indian bands. Taller men have higher ranges; see the chart above.
Is ideal weight the same as healthy weight?
Close, but not the same. Healthy weight is a range; ideal weight formulas give one figure inside or near that range.
What does ideal weight mean?
It is the weight linked with the lowest health risk for a person of your height. It is a guide, not a rule, and muscle and frame size can move it.
