ICICI BMI Calculator: An Independent Guide

BMISame BMI formulaInsurance useChecked 2 Nov 2026

The ICICI BMI calculator, found on the ICICI Prudential Life and ICICI Lombard websites, works out your body mass index from height and weight, the same formula used everywhere: kilos over metres squared. You can get the same number with the calculator on this page and see what it means before you fill in an insurance form.

This site is not affiliated with ICICI; this is an independent explanation.

What the ICICI BMI calculator shows

Insurer calculators ask for height and weight, sometimes age and gender, and return a BMI with a label such as normal or overweight. The maths is identical to any BMI calculator. Some versions show only the WHO bands, which treat 23 to 24.9 as normal; Indian doctors call that overweight. The Indian BMI page explains the difference.

Searching for the ICICI Prudential BMI calculator, the ipru BMI calculator or the ICICI Lombard BMI calculator leads to the same kind of tool: a quick BMI check placed next to insurance products.

Why life and health insurers ask about BMI

Insurers assess risk. A BMI that is very low or high is linked with more illness on average, so it is one of the facts an underwriter looks at, along with age, smoking, family history, blood pressure, blood sugar and existing conditions. BMI alone rarely decides anything.

Depending on the insurer and the policy, a BMI outside its usual range might lead to a request for medical tests, a review by a doctor, a higher premium or special terms. Each company sets its own rules, and they can change, so the insurer or its advisor is the only reliable source for those details.

Check your BMI before you apply

Use the calculator above with an accurate height and a morning weight. Knowing your BMI and your waist size before you fill in a proposal form helps you answer questions correctly and spot whether a health check might be asked for.

Someone 172 cm tall and 78 kg has a BMI of 26.4. That is overweight by WHO bands and obese by Indian bands, a level where many insurers may ask a few more health questions.

Be truthful on the form

Always give your real height and weight. Wrong details on an insurance proposal can lead to a claim being questioned or rejected later, which is a far bigger problem than a medical test today. If your weight changes a lot after the policy starts, read your policy terms or ask the insurer whether you need to tell them.

Using BMI for your own health, not just for insurance

A BMI check is most useful as a nudge toward better health. If your result is above the healthy band, losing about a twentieth of your weight improves blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol for many people. Plan it with the calorie deficit calculator and see a healthy target for your height on the ideal weight calculator.

Other ways to read the result

  • Check your waist: over 90 cm for men or 80 cm for women suggests extra risk even at a normal BMI.
  • If you are muscular, a reading from the tape method page tells you more than BMI, because it separates fat from lean tissue.
  • For a child, use the kids BMI page.

For questions about your insurance cover, premium or medical tests, contact the insurer or a licensed advisor. For questions about your health, see a doctor.
